Waste prevention not only helps save the environment. It also allows you to save up millions of dollars for your business. Here is how:
1
Make purchasing guidelines which will promote waste prevention in your company. Always consider the availability of repair services and the length of warranty before making an equipment purchase.
2
Always go for natural materials over commercial ones. More often than not, commercial products contain toxins which harm not only the environment but also people and even pets.
3
Order your supplies by electronic mail or by voice mail so that you have a good track of inventory.
4
Be cautious with your packaging. Eliminate unneeded packaging. Use lightweight packaging options as often as possible.
5
When shipping materials to other branches, offices or stores, always use reusable boxes. Bear in mind to always reuse packaging materials like bubble wrap or foam peanuts.
6
Conserve paper. Use the two sides of the bond paper as often as possible. You may also reuse envelopes or better yet, always use two-way envelopes.
7
Go paperless as much as possible. If you can do away without printing documents and keeping computer files instead, do so.
8
Teach your employees the value of waste prevention. To promote this concept, you may set up an area in the office where your employees could exchange reusable or recyclable materials with each other.
