How To Replace or Add Memory To Your Desktop PC

Do you have a desktop computer or PC that is kind of slow? Are you still running your PC on 256 MB or even 128 MB? Or maybe you just need to upgrade your memory because you installed some type of new software and you trying to make sure you computer will be handle the new requirements. If so, this instruction will show you step by step on how to replace or add memory to your desktop PC.

Once you PC has fully shut down, you will then need to unplug everything that is connected to the tower or base of the computer.

You will need to open up the tower or base of the computer.
Note: Make sure you remove any static from your hands before touching anything inside of your desktop PC. To do this touch some aluminum foil.

Locate the current memory slots. Sometimes you may have a extra opening for an extra memory stick. But in this instructional image both our memory slots have memory sticks in them.

If you need to add a memory stick and your have an open memory slot you can skip steps 5-8.

Once you have located your memory slots and you notice you have no slots open you will need to remove the old memory sticks. To do this you will notice to plastic latches holding the memory sticks on both sides.

You will want to slowly and gently press down on both the white plastic latches that are holding the memory sticks at the same time. This should slightly move up your memory sticks from the memory slots.

Now that you have an open memory slot you can now add the new memory stick.
Note: There are different types of memory, so consult with your desktop user manual on which type of memory your desktop PC uses.

Place your memory stick in your opened memory slot. When you do this the plastic latches will snap in place your memory stick.

Once you have added your memory stick, you will now want to close your tower or computer base.

You have now successfully installed replaced or added new memory to your desktop PC.
