How To Prepare/Cook a Turkey
The holidays are approaching and you want to cook a turkey, but you just don't know how. Or maybe your just in the mood for a juicy turkey. This recipe will get you started to prepare/cook a great moist turkey.

Defrost your turkey. Now there are two ways to defrost your turkey, you can either defrost your turkey in the refrigerator or by using cold water. In this instruction we will be using cold water.
Place your frozen unopened turkey in the clean sink. Cover the turkey completely with cold water. You will want to leave the turkey in the cold water 30 minutes per pound to completely thaw the turkey.

Spread open the legs of the turkey and reach inside to remove the turkey neck.

Turn the turkey over to the front end and remove the heart and liver. The heart and liver should be placed into a plastic bag and should easily be found.

Place the turkey in the preheated oven. Depending on your turkey size, you will want to cook your turkey 5 - 20 minutes per pound. Always use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature the turkey.
Approximate Cooking Times:
8-12 lbs. turkey will take 2 1/2 - 3 hours
12-14 lbs. turkey will take 3 - 3 1/2 hours
14-18 lbs. turkey will take 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 hours
18-20 lbs. turkey will take 4 1/2 - 4 hours 45 minutes
20-24 lbs. turkey will take 4 hours 45 minutes - 5 hours

Once your turkey has finished cooking you will want to remove it from your stove.

Once you have checked that your turkey has been fully cooked you will want to remove your turkey from the cooking pan and place it on a plate. You have now prepared/cooked your first turkey.
