Controlling your teenager especially on the aspect of school and getting good grades could be a little tough. Here are a few tips on how to guide your teenager’s schooling.
1
Don’t push him. Teenagers are sensitive. Pushing him to become better will make him feel like he’s not doing anything good at all. Don’t push him, guide him.
2
Don’t compare. Never ever compare. Comparing your child with another kid would make him feel inferior. This could even backfire to rebellion.
3
Support him with his school needs. Parents are supposed to be providers. If he needs something for school purposes, try your best to give this to him.
4
Talk to his teacher. Monitor him through his teacher. Ask him teacher about his performance. Always check his cards and his grades.
5
Befriend his friends. Know his friends. If most of his peer group is in the “achievers” side, you don’t have to worry too much. If most of them have had a record of slacking, you need to impose a closer guidance.
6
Reward him. If he has done something good, give him a reward. This way, he’ll have a motivation to be always at his best.
7
Share your school stories with him. Tell him about your school stories. Share stories about your friends and more importantly, the lessons which you’ve learned when you were in high school.
8
Support him in making a clear goal. Don’t make the goal for him. Instead, help him realize his goal. Does he want to get into an Ivy League school? Give him tips. Encourage him to do better and make a way for his future goals.
