All people have a pack-rat instinct, and as a result really enjoy collecting all manner of useless objects. If you’re close to a beach, the weather is really lousy, and you’re bored out of your mind, go to the beach.
1
Take a bag or carrier with you. There is no goal in mind.
2
Walk along the beach, admire the crashing waves, lick the salt off your lips, and wonder exactly how you will get all the sand you don’t get off your feet when you get back in the vehicle out of your vehicle’s carpets.
3
Squat down at a patch where there is a collection of broken shells, and sift through them. Pick up a few and put them into your carrier.
4
You need to collect lots of stuff. And you need to toss a lot back.
5
Collect bits of wood, or weathered glass that’s gone smooth, and all hazy. You may be lucky and find a whole shell, or a really neat piece of seaweed.
6
Take your stash home, and after rinsing it in fresh water, leave it somewhere to dry before using it for anything.
7
Have a hot shower, and a glass of something warming.
8
You will of course forget all about your beach haul, but you will have had a great outing.
