Tug of war is greatly under-estimated as a sport. Few realise that it is not only for really BIG guys, and that certain tactics can make up for a lack of size.
1
Get a rope that is long enough, and thick enough.
2
Mark its center with a handkerchief, bandanna or sock.
3
Mark a spot on the ground with a sweatshirt, jersey, shoe or whatever is handy.
4
Two paces away from there leave another mark.
5
Place the center of the rope between the marks, with the rope spread out its full length.
6
Choose teams.
7
Impress on your team, the importance of listening.
8
One member is nominated “caller”. This person calls “pull”, “hold”, and “step”.
9
Nominate an “anchor”. This person is at the end of the rope, to provide stability, and to anchor the rope while the rest of the team step.
10
All team members must be on the same side of the rope. One person on the wrong side will draw the rope skew and upset the team effort.
11
Pull against the rope with your legs, NOT by bending and straightening your back.
