Pets with healthy teeth and gums live longer, healthier lives. Getting your dog used to regular cleaning at home is important for its long term health.
1
Get your dog used to your fingers in its mouth. Let your dog lick something tasty off your fingers. Gently massage your dog's muzzle and slowly get your dog accustomed to your touch. Carefully open your dog's mouth.
2
Try introducing the brush by letting your dog lick something tasty off the brush. Introduce toothpaste by letting the dog lick it. Use only toothpaste for pets.
3
Start by gently brushing the canine or front teeth. Each day or week as your dog gets used to teeth brushing, brush more and more teeth further back.
4
Brush your dog's teeth regularly - daily if possible-and have your Veterinarian check its teeth at annual check ups.
5
Further ensure your dog's oral health by feeding dry kibble rather than canned food and giving your dog safe chew toys, such as raw hide "bones".
