Taking a frightened cat to the veterinarian can be a dicey endeavor which, if improperly done, can result in injury to you, the cat, and the vet.
1
Get your cat into a carrier before leaving the house or getting into the car. Be gentle and soothing.
2
Make sure your cat is properly contained for transporting to the vet. A frightened cat can act very unlike itself and be dangerous in the car. Cats have also been known to be great escape artists when motivated by fear. Keep your cat in a secure pet carrier - never have it loose or on a leash. Frightened cats can squirm out of loving arms, collars, and harnesses and be out the door, or across a highway, or into a sewer opening, and lost forever.
3
Keep your cat in its carrier until the Vet or Vet's assistant requests you to remove it. Do not be tempted to open the carrier to pet kitty in the waiting room. Someone could walk in with a dog at any moment and your sweet kitty could shoot out of there like a rocket! It has happened! Cats have also escaped Veterinary offices through small holes, open windows, and fan vents. Keep your cat secure and safe.
