Finding the right Vet or animal hospital before you really need one is a good idea if you are concerned about the health and safety of your pets.
1
Seek recommendations from other pet lovers.
2
Call the animal hospital and ask some basic questions that concern you most. Are there boarding facilities? Are dogs and cats kept in separate areas? What are some the basic fees? Do they have emergency services or is anyone on the premises at night? What is done onsite and what is referred out? Do they take walk-ins for routine care or appointments only?
3
Visit the place (possibly with your pet) to assess the staff and general cleanliness and adequacy of the facilities.
4
Ask for a tour of the facility - especially the kennels.
5
If you have any exotic or small pets, ask if the Vet has any experience with this type of pet or has someone to refer them to and where the specialist is located.
6
Get contact information and emergency numbers and give the animal hospital a copy of your pet's previous health records.
