A native frog or toad can usually be kept simply and makes a fun little pet.
1
Use a glass aquarium with a screen lid and plenty of space for your frog or toad. Plastic containers are not attractive and can become scratched and cloudy.
2
For toads provide dry substrate and a small shallow pool of water. For semi-aquatic frogs, provide a layer of substrate that is deeper on one end of the tank and slopes into a water area on the other end.
3
Remember to use only clean, de-chlorinated water.
4
Feed your frog or toad bugs or worms. Dried bloodworms can be placed in a small dish with a bit of water. Small mealworms and crickets can be provided live for amphibians large enough to handle them. A dandelion or other stem covered in aphids also make a nice meal.
5
Keep your pet's habitat at a moderate temperature, between about 60 to 70 degrees F.
6
Read up on the special needs of special species of frogs or completely aquatic frogs and find other information about frogs at the website for the "Center For Global Environmental Education" at http://cgee.hamline.edu/frogs
